COCAINE FAGGOT

COCAINE FAGGOT is an autobiographical account by poet and playwright Bob Laine of what it was like to be a closeted gay man in the 80s & 90s - though on a deeper level, it’s about all of us… about feelings of love and longing, and all of the other experiences one has in relation to those feelings - heartbreak, loneliness, fear, distraction & addiction. 

I first saw Bob Laine in a production of Inverse Theater’s Lost Labor’s Loved by Kirk Wood Bromley in 1997 at Todo Con Nada in the East Village. After I joined the company in 2004, I had the pleasure of seeing and working with Bob up close. I soon learned that he was not only an incredible actor, but an equally talented poet and playwright. His ability to convey the intimate feelings and moments of his life with honesty, courage, and poetry floored me from the start. 

Bob’s gift for writing is equivalent to opening a vein and letting it bleed onto the paper… in the most poetic fashion. A perfect blend of poetry and prose storytelling that allows the listener to connect with what is being shared while being swept away by the way he shares it. 

When Bob told me his idea to bring in a group of stellar actors to help share his stories, I could not help but offer my assistance.

This updated version includes the addition of four immensely talented actors at the top of their game. Taj Burroughs, Spencer Cramer, Sam Marzella & Derrick Peterson bring their own history and experiences to their roles - along with their own masterful storytelling abilities. The result is a powerful and touching account of Bob’s personal experiences brought to life with tenderness, humor, and heart.
