After being the resident composer for Kirk Wood Bromley’s Inverse Theater Company from 2004 to 2014 the company disbanded after 20+ years of producing dazzling, cutting edge “Indie theater” – a term Kirk himself coined during an acceptance speech for the very first Caffe Cino Award (NY Innovative Theater Awards) in 2005.

Not long after, Kirk asked if I'd like to help him make an album of his own songs. As a composer, it was a nice change for me to produce, arrange, and play on songs I had not written - but still loved. The result was an album called SMELL THE SUN. A mixture of genres and attitudes that called upon different sets of skills that – while I already had them (apparently) – I hadn't ever had an occasion to explore or put them to use. 

With pencil and pad in hand (literally), Kirk’s poetry continued to flow out of him and the songs he was sending me grabbed me by the throat and began a new type of creative outlet for both of us that has been very exciting and fulfilling. These songs represent a collaboration not only of two friends making an album, but of two artists who had spent the past decade ceating a different type of art together - of which this is merely a continuation in a different form.
